Small Change

A young girl who takes matters into her own hands to offer her mother a moment of joy during a tough time. Small Change is a heartwarming short film that follows Mary Jane, an observant little girl notices her mother’s quiet sacrifices for her family and makes it her mission to give her something back. 

Set against the backdrop of a working-class family navigating some hardship, the story unfolds through the eyes of a child filled with empathy and emerging awareness of adult struggle. After seeing her mother put back a purse she adored at the shop to prioritise buying baby formula she sets off on her adventure to collect the means to get it for her. 

Driven by love and determination, the story explores the emotional weight of silent sacrifices and acts of love that shape everyday life. Directed with warmth and curiosity, at its core Small Change captures the power of small gestures and acts as a tribute to the invisible work of caregiving. It invites the viewers to look closer at what often goes unseen and appreciate it.
